Alpha Financial Consultants has been recognised as a forward-thinking, modern company at the 2008 South Devon Excellence Awards.  The financial planning practice, based in Torquay, was announced as the winner of Most Innovative Company at an award ceremony held on 20 November.

Innovation is at the heart of Alpha Financial Consultants as reinforced by Hugh Doxat-Pratt, Financial Planning Director:

"We invest large amounts of our time developing the business and are constantly trying out new strategies and procedures to improve the way we work and the service we provide to our clients.

"Some of our innovations have been a great success; others haven't worked so well. However, we have a company philosophy that 'it is ok to fail', so we simply think again. For every innovation that doesn't work out, there is another that moves the business forward."

The practice was in good company at the awards ceremony alongside two of its clients The Torbay Bookshop, who won the category for Best Marketing Campaign, and Pennywell Farm, who were awarded Best South Hams Business.

In their submission to the judges, Alpha Financial Consultants demonstrated how the team work closely together as a values-led practice. The well-being of clients is put first in utilising their financial resources to achieve a balance between their immediate needs and long-term dreams. One example of innovative ways of working include the development of the Alpha brand to steer all decision making within the business based around four key values of leadership; integrity; creativity and wellbeing.

The judge for the category of Most Innovative Company, Nigel Halford, CEO of Tamar Science Park said:

"As a progressive and innovative organisation Alpha Financial Consultants met every one of the laid down criteria for this award."

The awards were presented by Susan Osman of BBC News 24 in a ceremony at South Devon College. Each award category was sponsored by a local business; the sponsor for Most Innovative Company was Kitson Hutchings Solicitors, one of South Devon's leading law firms.
